Educate
Our Scheme is ideal for use as a basis for discussion about the childrens' thoughts and opinions on issues such as reducing, re-using and recycling and second-hand clothing. It can help to make children more aware of their values and of the impact of their everyday actions on the environment.
The 'Phil' the Bag Textile Recycling Scheme can be a great starting point for ideas or extension work related to topics which correspond with the Science, Geography, Citizenship, Design and Technology and the Art & Design programmes of study in the National Curriculum.
Some examples:
Geography at key stages 1 and 2 (Year 2)
Unit 17: Global eye
Section 4: What do we recycle at home?

Unit 17:

Art & Design
Why not 're-use' an old t-shirt by giving it a new personal design? Draw on it, paint it, cut it, sew it,…and then even hold a fashion show to display the new designs - thereby raising even more funds for your school.

The possibilities are endless!!
Did you know.....?
* Textiles make up 12% of landfill sites
* Around 900 million pieces of clothing go to landfill in the UK annually
* Nearly 2 million pairs of shoes are thrown away in the UK each week
